<body><h2>DMA Compatibility</h2>
<p>
You can enhance DMA compatibility to make sure the multimedia contents on your Synology NAS are played smoothly on your DMA devices.
<br />
Please note that file conversion will apply to every device once you have enabled this function. However, the results of conversion may be accepted by some DMAs only, depending on the media formats supported by your DMA.
</p>
<h4>To enable audio conversion:</h4>
<ol>
<li>
Select <strong>Enable audio conversion</strong> and the following checkboxes to enable converters if your DMA does not support the following audio formats: <strong>FLAC</strong>, <strong>APE</strong>, <strong>OGG</strong>, and <strong>AIFF</strong>.

<li>
Select <strong>Downsample audio files during conversion to provide better DMA compatibility</strong> if you would like to reduce the data rate of audio files and provide better DMA compatibility.

<li>
Click <strong>Apply</strong>.
</li>

<h4>To enable video conversion:</h4>
<ol>
<li>
Select <strong>Enable video conversion</strong> and enter the video file extensions to be converted.
</li>
<li>
Click <strong>Apply</strong>.
</li>

<h4>Note: </h4>
<ul>
<li>This function is only available on <a target="_blank" href="https://kb.synology.com/DSM/tutorial/Can_my_Synology_NAS_convert_videos_for_my_device">certain models</a>. Also, conversion occupies extra system resources and may lead to choppy playback. To prevent this situation, check if file formats of your videos are supported by your DMA, and only fill in those formats which are not supported.</li>
<li>The video conversion feature will be discontinued on DSM 7.2.2 and above due to the wide range of media formats supported on most end devices. This change aims to reduce unnecessary resource usage and enhance system efficiency.</li>

<h4>To help DMA identify multimedia file formats:</h4>
<ol>
<li>
Select <strong>Enable customized MIME types</strong> and enter the customized MIME types.
</li>
<li>
Click <strong>Apply</strong>.
</li>

<h4>About MIME Types</h4>
<p>
MIME types, also known as Internet media types, can improve the compatibility of multimedia files with DMA
by specifying the type and sub-type of media files. You can customize the MIME types to help your DMA device
identify the correct file formats.
</p>

<h4>To manage the list of DMA devices:</h4>
<ol>
<li>
Select <strong>Restrict access to Media Server for newly detected UPnP/DLNA devices</strong> if you do not wish to leave Media Server open to new devices.
</li>
<li>
Click <strong>Device list</strong> to see the list of DMA devices found by Synology NAS.
</li>
<li>
Do any of the following:
<ul>
<li>
Select or deselect the checkboxes to allow or disallow the devices to access Media Server.
</li>
<li>
Double-click the fields under <strong>Profile</strong> and choose the correct type for your devices from the drop-down menu.
<br /><span class="note_head">Note: </span>
<strong>Default profile</strong> will be used if Media Server cannot identify the type of your DMA device. If your device is not listed here, you can try using <strong>Generic DLNA</strong> (for devices that support DLNA) or <strong>Generic Non-DLNA</strong> (for devices that do not support DLNA).

<li>
Click <strong>Refresh</strong> if you want to make sure the device list is up-to-date.
</li>

Click <strong>Save</strong> and <strong>Close</strong> to save your changes and close the <strong>Device list</strong> window, or click <strong>Reset</strong> to cancel the changes and restore your previous settings.
