<p>Media Server allows you to stream and play multimedia files in the <strong>photo</strong>, <strong>music</strong>, and <strong>video</strong> shared folders from your Synology NAS to DLNA/UPnP DMAs (Digital Media Adapter), such as stereo systems, TV sets, or gaming consoles. More <a href="#indexed">indexed folders</a> can be added for sharing at <strong>Media Indexing</strong>.</p>

<h4>Note:</h4>
<ol>
<li><a name="indexed"></a>To add a folder as an indexed folder, sign in to DSM as <strong>admin</strong> (or a user belonging to the <strong>administrators</strong> group), and then go to <strong>Control Panel</strong> > <strong>Services</strong> > <strong>Indexing Service</strong> > <strong>Media Indexing</strong> > <strong>Indexed Folder</strong>. For more information, click the question mark icon at the upper-right corner of the window.</li>
<li>Users can save playlists directly in the <strong>music</strong> shared folder, and use it to play the selected music. To play music from playlists, please make sure the playlists are edited with a relative file path.</li>

You can play the following multimedia file formats on Synology NAS with DLNA/UPnP enabled DMA, but the actual playback capabilities may vary depending on the DLNA/UPnP client.

<li><strong>Audio</strong>: FLAC, M4A, MP3, Ogg Vorbis, PCM, WAV, WMA, WMA VBR, WMA PRO, WMA Lossless</li>
<li><strong>Image</strong>: BMP, JPG (jpe, jpeg), GIF, ICO, PNG, PSD, TIF (tiff), UFO, RAW (arw, srf, sr2, dcr, k25, kdc, cr2, crw, nef, mrw, ptx, pef, raf, 3fr, erf, mef, mos, orf, rw2, dng, x3f)</li>
<li><strong>Video</strong>: 3GP, 3G2, ASF, AVI, DivX, DVR-MS, ISO, M2T, M2TS, M4V, MKV, MP4, MPEG1, MPEG2, MPEG4, MTS, MOV, QT, SWF, TP, TRP, TS, VOB, WMV, XviD, RV30, RV40, AC3, AMR, WMA3, RMVB</li>
<li><strong>Playlist</strong>: M3U, WPL</li>

<h3>Choosing Network Interface</h3>
<p>According to the network you are located, choose a network interface from the drop-down menu.</p>
<h4>To choose a network interface:</h4>
<ol>
<li>Click the <strong>Network</strong><strong> Interface</strong> drop-down menu, and choose an interface from the list.</li>
<li>Click <strong>Apply</strong>.</li>

<h3>Setting DMA Menu Language</h3>
<p>You can choose your DMA menu language from the drop-down menu.</p>
<h4>To customize a DMA menu language:</h4>
<ol>
<li>Click the <strong>DMA menu language</strong> drop-down menu, and choose a language from the list.</li>
<li>Click <strong>Apply</strong>.</li>

<li>For users to correctly browse the multimedia files on the server, the codepage and menu language you set above should be identical to those of the DMA.</li>

<h3>Changing DMA Menu Style</h3>
<p>You can decide how your multimedia files would be organized on the DMA menu by selecting a predefined menu style or customizing your own. The system can save up to three different sets of customized menu style.</p>
<h4>To customize a DMA menu style:</h4>
<ol>
<li>Choose one of the three customized styles, and then click <strong>Customize</strong>.</li>
<li>Select <strong>Music</strong>, <strong>Photo</strong>, or <strong>Video</strong>.</li>
<li>Click <strong>Create</strong> to create a new menu style. If you have selected <strong>Music</strong>, there will be a list of templates. You can edit an existing template or create new ones according to your preference.</li>
</ol>
<h3>Adjusting SSDP Advertisement Interval</h3>
<p>You can change the time interval that Synology NAS server advertises itself on the home network. By advertising itself, DLNA/UPnP devices can detect that the server is running and can play multimedia contents streamed from the server.</p>
<h4>To adjust the SSDP advertisement interval:</h4>
<ol>
<li>Enter a value in the text field. The value must be within 5-86400.</li>
<li>Click <strong>Apply</strong>.</li>
</ol>
<h3>Recording Diagnostic Log</h3>
<p>The log can help determine the cause of the problem when you contact Synology Support for assistance.</p>
<h4>To manage DMA communication log:</h4>
<ol>
<li>Click <strong>Diagnose</strong> and select <strong>Enable DMA communication log for the diagnostic purpose</strong> to start recording the log.</li>
<li>You can download or clear the recorded log by clicking <strong>Download</strong> or <strong>Clear</strong>.</li>
<li>Click <strong>OK</strong>.</li>
